The Fun Zone at Balboa

This is a great place to go to relive some childhood memories. If you are willing to put up about ten bucks, then your childish heart can go wild on Merry-Go-Rounds, Ferris Wheels, the ironically named "Scary Dark Ride" and more. There is also an arcade, the beach near by, and tons of great restaurants. An afternoon at the beach could be capped off by this fun little fair.

P.S. This is also the location of the fictional Banana Stand of Bluth family fame.

No Seriously

I've had a lot of fun experiences lately, and I realized something.

For three years, I didn't "go" to college.

I was enrolled. I paid tuition. I went to classes. I hung out with friends. But for the most, I didn't "go" to college.

There's a corner of the college experience that doesn't take up very much time, but makes for the majority of the memories. I probably won't remember most of my class sessions, papers, or even some of the books I've read. These are all important. They're really what I paid for, and honestly they pave what paths I can take in life. But I still will not explicitly remember the majority of what I did here.

But last night, at 1 am, my friend Tim and I went to a 24-Hour Fitness hot tub. Wearing Speedos. Yes, Speedos.

After that, we went looking for an open Jack In The Box because I really, really wanted a Ciabatta burger. We went to four, none of which were open, on what I will now affectionately call a "Jack-lap." I'll remember this.

Memories are in events like late-night cheap Mexican food runs. Or hot-tubbing. Or spontaneous road trips. Or ditching classes together and going to the beach because (let's be honest) those are often better than class. I mean, class is great and important and all, but which will you remember in ten years: that time that Dr. Lowenstein gave the kick-ass lecture on philology, or when you and four friends randomly piled into a 1991 Toyota Corolla and drove to that deli in Santa Cruz because one person really wanted a cold cut trio?

I've gone to college a lot this last year. But ask yourself: have you?
